Bulk Earthworks at JCU Townsville Campus

SHP carried out the filling in of holes remaining from the demolition of former JCU Buildings 002, 003, 008, and 009. The works included the dewatering of the existing excavation, inspection of base to determine if preparation of a bridging layer of filtered rock was required for the bulk earthworks, then importing fill from JCU stockpile, sifting out big rocks, then placing fill in holes and compacting. During the project, the wet weather caused a variety of issues including washing out access roads and pathways. SHP performed repairs on the haul roads in order to access JCU’s stockpile and constructed a safe access temporary pathway for pedestrian traffic. SHP also removed various trees and shrubs from site, installed Hydromulch, and supplied and installed a permanent irrigation system upon completion of the works.
